This map, created spontaneously following the introduction of the euro, presents the history of the currency in 48 steps, from bartering to the present day. It shows that at times in the history of Europe, when trade was most intense, there were other attempts, or rather, temptations, to introduce a single currency.
Created just after the euro was introduced, this map presents all the currencies in the countries that founded the euro, without knowing which other countries would join in the following years.
